Special Needs Programs
The Therapeutic Recreation programs are designed to include children and adults with special needs in recreational activities. The goal of the programs is to provide a positive and supportive learning environment where they can explore new skills, foster friendships, and have opportunities to experience success. Volunteers will be used to assist in our programs to provide positive social interaction.
Please also note the symbol throughout the brochure indicating other programs that would be appropriate for individuals with special needs or that would provide the necessary support and modifications for inclusion of individuals with special needs.
Cheshire Parks and Recreation encourages participation for everyone! If you or a family member with special needs would like to participate in other recreation programs, please contact Barbara Costello, the Adaptive Programs Coordinator, at 272-2743 to discuss the supportive services needed to make it a positive recreational experience.

Therapeutic Recreation Program Survey
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
The Cheshire Parks and Rec Department trying to gather information about our participant’s needs and see more people utilizing our programs. I would really appreciate your help by filling out the attached survey and sending it back to Cheshire Parks and Recreation ASAP.
I am trying to develop a comprehensive recreational program through understanding the needs of the participants with various disabilities. Your help is critical for me to plan the best activities for our participants.
I realize some parents may have some hesitations about having your child attend, so we would invite you to attend a program, meet the staff and mentors, observe how the program is run, and get a first hand “feel” for it to see if it would be appropriate for your child. We want you to feel comfortable having them attend our programs. Just email me ahead of time to arrange a visit.
It should just take a few minutes to fill out, and then send it back to Cheshire Parks and Recreation at 559 South Main St., Cheshire CT, 06410. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
